Starlink in the Russian army: Investigations into SpaceX started in the US Congress

Representatives of the Democratic Party in the US Congress House of Representatives launched an investigation against the SpaceX company in connection with the use of the Starlink satellite internet service by the Russian army.

This was reported by The Washington Post, Ukrinform reported.

“House Democrats launched an investigation into Elon Musk’s company, SpaceX, to check whether the company took appropriate measures to prevent the Russian military from using the Starlink satellite internet service during the war against Ukraine,” the report said.

Democratic representatives Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia sent a letter to the company with a request to report complaints about possible illegal use of Starlink terminals, especially in Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine.

Lawmakers expressed concern over allegations by Ukrainian intelligence that Russian forces placed SpaceX terminals in eastern Ukraine in violation of U.S. sanctions.

Democrats warned the head of the SpaceX company, Gwynne Shotwell, that the Russian Federation’s possible use of Starlink terminals “poses a serious threat to the security of Ukraine, the lives of Ukrainians and the national security of the United States.”

“We are concerned that you may not have adequate safeguards and policies in place,” Raskin and Garcia said.

According to Ukrinform, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed that the use of Starlink satellite communication systems by Russian invaders on the front line has increased. According to intelligence data, radio intercepts of the invaders’ conversations show that Starlink terminals were installed to provide access to the Internet, for example, in units of the 83rd Air Assault Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces operating in the Donetsk region near Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. .

Later, Elon Musk said that SpaceX did not sell any Starlink terminals to the Russian Federation.
