Yesterday, Ukrainian mobile communications, Internet services and telephone operators began to register the first blackouts in the Kherson region, and then a complete breakdown of communications. According to information received from companies, representatives of the occupation regime interfered with the operation of the equipment – power outage of the equipment, cutting of cables, etc.
Currently, residents are deprived of Ukrainian mobile communications and Internet access, as well as the ability to make national and international calls using landlines. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that communications in the area will be restored in the near future, since the relevant equipment is under the full control of the occupation regime and the Russian army.
This is not the first attempt to deprive citizens of Ukraine who find themselves in temporarily occupied areas of the opportunity to communicate with their relatives, call ambulances or rescuers, and obtain accurate information about the war and the situation in the country. Instead, there were reports of Russian fake propaganda being broadcast over the loudspeakers. The aggressor apparently thinks that without alternative sources of information, Ukrainians will begin to believe in hostile propaganda. In vain, because Kherson is Ukraine.
Such actions of the invaders from the Russian Federation could be related to the desperation of the Russian army, which suffered losses and could not prevent the counterattack actions of the Ukrainian army. They fear that news of the success of the Ukrainian army will increase the resistance and intensify the work of the guerrillas in the Kherson region.
At the same time, we do not exclude attempts to connect Ukrainian users to Russian Internet networks and mobile operators, which are completely controlled by enemy intelligence services. Such actions would be a gross violation of international law and further confirmation that Russia is acting as a terrorist state, using technology to occupy territories. This is another confirmation of the need to strengthen restrictions on Russia’s access to any technology. In this case, Ukraine will appeal to international organizations to stop the illegal actions of the invaders.
We also remind you that Ukrainians using telephone and Internet in Russian networks must comply with maximum security measures. To do this, we advise you to read our recommendations, which describe how to use communication in the temporarily occupied territories: https://cip.gov.ua/ua/news/r. Also, use VPN while logging in.
