A foldable MacBook is in development for launch in 2027says a renowned Apple analyst in a new report, Ming-Chi Kuo. Would Apple bet on the MacBook for its foldable debut before the iPhone or iPad?
Apple has its own pace and strategy. Sometimes it develops great innovations (iPhone, iPad…) or makes market decisions that other companies follow exactly, see mobile phones without a charger, without a headphone jack or without microSD cards. Other times it arrives late to a market segment, as it did with the Vision Pro browser, although it always manages to present what it’s launching as if it’s the new, biggest and best. It’s the advantage of being the world’s leading technology company in terms of revenue and profits, with millions of loyal followers and a brand reputation that other companies can’t match.
Rumors of a foldable iPhone are still the order of the day. In fact, they date back to five years ago, when Samsung announced its first “Fold” device, and Apple’s patent came to light with a very similar design to protect itself from copyright conflicts in the future. We’ve been waiting ever since. Even so, Apple continues to sell mobile phones like hotcakes and for the first time led the world in mobile phone sales. He doesn’t feel a commercial need, but still It is surprising that it has not yet entered the folding “revolution”with new formats that will take advantage of the possibilities brought about by flexible screen technologies.
And we are in the debate when friend Kuo (known as an analyst specializing in Apple) opens the door to a foldable MacBook that will enter serial production in 2027. No other details are provided, but the analyst says it’s the only folding product that has a specific plan and launch date defined. Surprising considering the iPhone would be a more “logical” model to start with folding.
An analyst says the laptop should a total screen size 20.2 inches, with a hinged system in a book type but horizontal format and could be used for a variety of purposes. The lower part, as we have already seen with the ASUS or Lenovo designs, could serve as a secondary screen or as a virtual keyboard. We assume that the panel would be multi-touch to take advantage of the potential of optical pens in this type of format.
Interested in a foldable MacBook? Sure, but we still think Apple’s first foldable device would have to come from its iPhones.
