Microsoft says Russian hackers gained access to internal systems

Microsoft said Kremlin-funded Russian hacking group Midnight Blizzard gained access to some of its source code repositories and internal systems following an attack in January.

This was reported by Reuters, Ukrinform reported.

Microsoft highlighted in February that hackers had increased the volume of some aspects of the attack tenfold compared to January 2024.

The company added that it aims to use various sensitive data that Midnight Blizzard finds.

In January, Microsoft discovered a Russian hacker group funded by the Russian Federation that hacked the company’s corporate networks and stole emails and documents from employee accounts, Ukrinform reported.

Microsoft claims that hackers belonging to the Russian state organization Midnight Blizzard, also known as Nobelium, are behind this incident.

According to media reports, Midnight Blizzard, also known as APT29, Nobelium or Cozy Bear, is linked to the Russian spy agency SVR. The group is best known for interfering with the US Democratic National Committee during the 2016 election.
