According to Ukrinform, a source in the company informed Fortune about this.
In this way, Musk aims to encourage users to watch “long videos on the big screen” to make X more attractive to bloggers and advertisers. A company source added that Musk is “determined to compete with YouTube.”
Other services Musk wants to compete with include live streaming platform Twitch, encrypted messaging app Signal and social media forum Reddit.
In January, X announced that it was “now a video-first platform,” unveiling a new feature reminiscent of TikTok’s full-screen infinite scrolling feature.
The social network recently inked a deal with former CNN host Don Lemon for a new show exclusively on X, and former Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson frequently posts long-form video content on X.
Musk also urged bloggers and other content creators to move their videos to X, saying they would benefit from increased ad revenue streams.
The former Twitter has launched TV apps at least three times; Its first versions date back to 2010 on the now-defunct Google TV platform and 2011 on Samsung’s Smart Hub platform for SmartTVs. In 2016, after Twitter struck a $10 million deal to stream 10 NFL games, the company launched video streaming apps for Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Xbox One.
As Ukrinform reports, social network X has announced a new format for long posts on the platform, called “Articles”.
