OpenAI announced that CEO Sam Altman will return to the board.

This was reported by the New York Post, Ukrinform reported.

The company said it had “full confidence” in Altman, 38, after completing an investigation into the circumstances that led to his dismissal on November 17 last year.

The board also includes Sue Desmond-Hellmann, former CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; former Sony General Counsel Nicole Seligman and Instacart CEO Fiji Simo.

ChatGPT’s developer, OpenAI, fired Altman last fall for allegedly not being “consistently candid in his messaging.”

OpenAI’s board of directors subsequently contacted law firm WilmerHale to investigate the incident.

Former board members were found to have had the right to fire Altman, but WilmerHale concluded that Altman’s behavior “did not warrant” his firing.

Three board members involved in Altman’s firing – Helen Toner, Tasha McCauley and Ilya Sutzkever – resigned when Altman returned as CEO.

Billionaire Elon Musk has reportedly filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, claiming, among other things, that they have abandoned the company’s original mission to develop artificial intelligence on a non-profit basis for the benefit of humanity.
