Microsoft will disable the ability to download files by URL in OneDrive

Microsoft continues to improve its OneDrive cloud service by adding useful features like AI assistant Copilot. The software giant also does not forget to get rid of outdated and unnecessary functions. One of OneDrive’s unpopular tools is the ability to upload files to the cloud from a remote server using URLs, so Microsoft decided to get rid of that.

The ability to upload files to OneDrive by URL is in testing and available to OneDrive Personal users. However, due to the low popularity and high costs of maintaining the normal performance of this vehicle, it was decided to eliminate it. Support for uploading files to OneDrive via URL will officially end on March 29, 2024. Microsoft noted that the feature may stop working at any time after this date and that no further announcements will be made on the subject.

This change will affect users who like the ability to upload files to OneDrive using URLs. Files uploaded to the cloud using this tool will not be affected in any way. All other Microsoft cloud storage users will not notice any changes.
