Samsung is updating its range of entry-level mobile phones with two new products: the Samsung Galaxy A55 and its little brother Galaxy A35.

Samsung launches the Samsung Galaxy A55 and the Samsung Galaxy A35. The new smartphones are the successors to the A54 and A34. The two devices look almost identical. Both have a 6.6-inch FHD+ screen with AMOLED technology and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. There is a 5,000 mAh battery underneath each. The basic version of the Samsung Galaxy A55 costs 479 euros (including VAT) and the Galaxy A35 costs 379 euros, so there are of course differences.

Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy A55 has a 12 MP wide-angle camera, a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a macro lens with a 5 MP camera. With a 32 MP sensor you can take selfies. The A35 has the same number of cameras, but they have lighter specifications. You get an 8MP wide-angle camera, 50MP behind the main lens with optical image stabilization and again a 5MP macro camera. For selfie work you rely on a camera with 13 MP.

Judging by the specifications, the main camera seems interesting. The A55’s selfie camera also looks good. We wouldn’t expect too much from the other cameras, especially as night falls.

Inner

The entry-level version of the A35 has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. A more expensive variant with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage is available (449 euros included). The Samsung Galaxy A55 is also available in two variants with 128 GB and 256 GB of storage capacity (529 euros) and 8 GB of RAM each. Samsung isn’t as vocal about the processor that powers everything in its launch message. The Samsung Galaxy A55 comes with an Exynos 1480 chip made in-house, the A35 has an Exynos 1380 on board, which is probably a step lower on the performance scale.

The devices are interesting for business use thanks to the integration of Samsung Knox. The auto-blocker software ensures that you cannot easily install malware. Finally, Samsung offers a security and privacy dashboard.

Update

Samsung also says the devices will receive four generations of operating system updates. You start with Android 14, so you can continue up to and including version 18. In addition, Samsung guarantees security updates for five years. That’s not bad for smartphones in this price range. The phones are available immediately.
