On Monday, the regulator began reviewing approximately 250,712 Honda Insight and Honda Passport vehicles in the United States for the possibility of accidental activation of emergency braking.

Reuters reports this, citing the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), as reported by Ukrinform.

The regulator’s report said the Office of Fault Investigation (ODI) received 46 complaints, including three reports of accidents or fires and two injuries to Honda drivers.

According to NHTSA, unintentional activation of the automatic emergency braking system in vehicles can increase the risk of a crash, resulting in personal injury and property damage.

The first phase of the regulator’s investigation involves analysis of received consumer complaints or automaker service bulletins that confirm the existence of a safety defect in specified Honda models.

As reported by Ukrinform, on February 7, Honda Motor Co. announced that it would recall 750,000 vehicles in the United States due to a defect related to the passenger seat airbag sensor that could cause malfunction.
