Billionaire Elon Musk said Monday that artificial intelligence startup xAI will open source its Grok chatbot this week.
This was reported by Reuters, Ukrinform reported.
“XAI will open source Grok this week,” Musk said. social networks H.
The move could give the public free access to experiments on the code behind the technology and put xAI on par with companies like Meta and France’s Mistral, which have their own open-source AI models. Google has also released an AI model called Gemma that third-party developers can modify according to their needs.
While open source technologies can help accelerate innovation, some experts warn that open source AI models could be used by terrorists to create chemical weapons or even develop a conscious superintelligence beyond human control.
Musk launched xAI last year as an alternative to OpenAI and Google to create what he calls “the most realistic artificial intelligence.” In December, the startup launched Grok on X for Premium+ subscribers.
As reported by Ukrinform, the companies Meta Platforms and IBM have formed a coalition (AI Alliance) of more than 50 companies engaged in artificial intelligence and research institutions that support the open-source artificial intelligence model.
