Mobile Number Protection, or MNP, allows users to protect their existing numbers when switching mobile carriers.

In general, Ukrainians used this service according to the National State Regulatory Commission in the Field of Electronic Communications, Use of Radio Frequency Resources and Provision of Postal Services (NKRZI) 287482 times. It is now proposed to make this even more affordable.

What do you suggest changing?

• Removal of restrictions. The regulator plans to prohibit any restrictions on subscribers on the use of the MNP service, including the provision of additional services that change, complicate or make impossible the subscriber’s access to the service.
• Change call notification. Notification of calls to the transferred number will be reduced to a sound signal (beep) without a voice message that the call was made to the transferred number to another operator’s network.
• CONTROL. The commission is seeking the authority to make operational decisions to suspend MNP service in the event of a cyber attack or emergency.

Let us remind you that in December 2023, the Commission fined Vodafone for denying subscribers the opportunity to switch to another network while keeping their numbers. Vodafone is now challenging this decision in court.

The proposed changes are expected to further simplify the number porting process, increasing flexibility and mobile service choice for consumers.
