It’s quite ironic that previously Instagram tried to copy TikTok, introducing a new interface with one post per screen and refocusing on video, but now TikTok itself wants to take a bite out of Meta’s photo market.

What is known

The source of the information is TikTok’s original code. Inside found lines describing a possible new implementation. The text states that the service will help users “find other like-minded people who love photo posts.”

The feature in the main app will allow users to sync photo posts between the regular TikTok app (with video) and a profile in the new app (with photos).

Several variations of the “TikTok Photos” icon were also found in the files of the latest build:

It looks like TikTok Photos will be available soon, but of course there’s no exact date. Another piece of text in the code says: “TikTok Photos is launching soon, and we hope to help you reach a new audience in the new app. If the switch is on, we’ll sync your public photos to the new app whether you close the pop-up or not.”.

Thus, it can be predicted that this text will be included in a special notification that will inform users about the launch of a new function.

There’s currently no information on exactly when you can expect the launch. The company is doing this in the midst of a potential ban in the US, so it’s safe to assume the new service will face issues as well.
