Immediately after the publication of Joe Biden’s column on the goals of American aid to Ukraine, an unidentified senior official of the US presidential administration spoke to news reporters and revealed some details of the next $700 million aid package.

In particular, according to Reuters, the source directly said that Ukraine will receive the long-desired HIMARS M142 multiple rocket launcher. This system comes with ammunition with a large firing range (up to 300 km). But Ukraine will not receive long-range shells for this system – a maximum of 50 miles (about 80 km), according to AFP. This exceeds the range of fire of Russian jet artillery – “Tornado”, which is in service with both Russia and Ukraine and can hit targets up to 70 km.

“These systems will be used by Ukrainians to repel Russia’s attack on Ukrainian territory, but not against targets on Russian soil,” the official said, as quoted by Reuters.
