Epic Games’ new Unreal Engine pricing plan is known to non-game developers and will come into effect with the release of the new Unreal Engine 5.4.
Fortnite developer Epic Games announced a new pricing plan for non-game developers to use the Unreal Engine. The annual subscription is $1,850 “per seat.” The new price only applies to games built with the latest version of the Epic engine and released at the end of April.
The new Unreal Engine pricing plan for non-game developers is $1,850 for an annual “per seat” subscription. It differs from the existing royalty-based model aimed at game developers.
This annual subscription gives developers access to Unreal Engine, real-time visualization tool Twinmotion, and photogrammetry software RealityCapture. Epic plans to bundle these tools together before integrating them into the Unreal engine by the end of 2025. They are also available individually.
The prize does not apply to all non-game developers. Businesses with annual gross sales of less than $1 million, students, teachers and hobbyists are exempt from the new pricing plan, as are companies that create plugins for the Unreal Engine. In the latter, Epic receives its share via the revenue share model in its Unreal Engine Marketplace.
The price change only applies to the latest version: Unreal Engine 5.4. Developers using version 5.3 or earlier will not benefit from the new pricing until they upgrade.
