Intel is currently validating its Gaudi 3 accelerator. The chips are expected to be generally available in the third quarter of this year. Gaudi 3 follows Gaudi-2. This accelerator recently made headlines thanks to benchmarks from Stability AI that showed the component to be very competitive compared to Nvidia H100 and A100, especially in training.
While Gaudi 2 is still manufactured using the 7 nm process, Intel is choosing 5 nm for Gaudi 3. This jump alone should ensure higher performance with lower energy consumption. Intel is of course also making architectural improvements, stating that this new component has four times more computing power on board, along with two times more network bandwidth and 1.5 times more bandwidth for HBM memory.
Intel also states that Falcon Shores is still planned for 2025. Falcon Shores will be a new GPU tailored for data centers that combines GPU aspects with Gaudi technology. However, the chip has already been moved several times.
