Microsoft is introducing a new version of Teams in April that will make it much easier to switch between private and work accounts.
Do you use Microsoft Teams for professional video conferences, but also for personal meetings? Previously, you always had to install two versions of the video meeting platform. Microsoft considers the business version and the personal version to be two separate platforms. That’s about to change, as Microsoft will soon roll out a new Teams app that brings together different accounts.
According to Microsoft, there was great demand among Teams users for an application for personal and work accounts. You can easily switch between your accounts by clicking on your profile. When you join a meeting, Teams will also ask you which account you want to join. The notifications will also show which account they were ordered for, although Microsoft won’t introduce this feature until later.
Microsoft will begin rolling out this updated Teams experience in April, as we see in a roadmap. With upcoming Windows updates, the updated Teams will gradually reach more users. The standalone app for private individuals will also disappear in the long term.
In the meantime, Microsoft is busy getting everyone on Teams 2.0. The new Teams platform is faster, lighter and more economical. Normally the old version of Teams would be retired at the end of this month, but because the new version isn’t for everyone yet, Microsoft is giving companies until July 1 to make the switch.
