The chip giant has launched the Intel Core i9-14900KS, a processor that replaces the top-of-the-line Intel Core i9-14900K and which, like it, is based on Raptor Cove architecture in its high-performance cores and v gracemon architecturet in its highly efficient cores.
In general, we can define the Intel Core i9-14900KS as high frequency version Intel Core i9-14900K and with a turbo mode that scales better. The difference between them is 200 MHz more in turbo mode for P cores in favor of the first and 100 MHz more in turbo mode for E cores, also in favor of the new KS model.
As you might have imagined, this means that the differences between the two processors are small when it comes to performance, but enough to make this new Intel chip a the most powerful in the mainstream consumer market if we talk about global performance, that is, if we combine gaming, productivity and multimedia applications. In the attached picture we can see its specifications, but we will go through them in more detail and intelligibility below.
Intel Core i9-14900KS specifications
Intel Node 7 (10nm SuperFin).
8 high-performance Raptor Cove cores at 3.2GHz-6.2GHz, normal and turbo mode.
16 highly efficient Gracemont cores at 2.4 GHz-4.5 GHz, normal and turbo mode.
24 cores and 32 threads.
36 MB L3 cache and 32 MB L2 cache.
Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 GPU.
TDP 150 watts in PL1 mode and 320 watts in PL2 mode.
It supports DDR4 3200 MHz and DDR5 5600 MHz memory in dual-channel configurations, up to a maximum capacity of 192 GB.
Compliant with PCIe Gen5 (16 lanes). It also offers 4 PCIe Gen4 lanes.
MSRP: $689, we don’t know the suggested retail price in Spain yet.
Intel Core i9-14900KS performance
In games, the percentage difference compared to the Intel Core i9-14900K is around 1.2% at 1080p with GeForce RTX 4090this difference almost completely disappears and we have a technical tie at 1440p and 2160. Compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, we have a victory for the AMD solution at 1080p and 1440p by 4.2% and 1.4% respectively, and a technical tie at 2160p.
Ryzen 7 7800X3D is still there the best choice if our priority is to playbut the Intel Core i9-14900KS shines in productivity and professional applications, where it offers excellent performance and becomes the most powerful option in its class, winning almost all tests.
We can say only one important but, and that is that its consumption is high and so are the working temperatures, as it registers peaks of up to 99 degrees in games. exceeds 100 degrees C in applications that load it at 100%. In terms of consumption, it has peaks 374 watts on stock frequencies and can exceed 500 watts if we remove the power limits. This data was extracted from TechPowerUp analysis.
Intel also confirmed something very important, namely expanded the list of games compatible with APOthe application optimizer that they introduced at the launch of Intel Core Gen 14. 12 new games have been added, which are in addition to the two that were already available before, which we can see identified in the attached image.
