Two leading Japanese automakers, Honda and Nissan, have decided to work together on the development of electric vehicles and what they call “smart mobility.”
This was reported by NHK, as reported by Ukrinform.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to support the strategic partnership in technical and economic terms.
It is stated that Honda has a large share in the North American market, while Nissan has production bases in Europe. They are likely to complement each other in their global strategies.
Currently, these companies lag behind their American and Chinese competitors in electric vehicle development. But they hope to work together to jointly supply electric vehicle-related parts and develop key components.
Companies are also looking for ways to explore software platforms to be used in new generation cars.
Honda is Japan’s number two automaker, with Nissan in third place.
According to Ukrinform, the Japanese automobile company Toyota maintained its first place in terms of world sales volume in 2023.
