Coal tycoon Clive Palmer, one of Australia’s richest men, has announced new plans to build Titanic II, which will be an exact replica of the famous ship of the 20th century. Construction will begin in the first quarter of next year and the new Titanic will set out on its maiden voyage in 2027.
Palmer announced the Titanic II project for the third time; the idea was first announced in 2012. But it looks like the billionaire has now decided to get to work.
The liner will be 269 meters long and 32.2 meters wide, meaning it will be slightly wider than the original. Its capacity will be 2,345 passengers and will be located on nine decks with 835 cabins.
“Titanic” sank in the Atlantic on the night of April 14-15, 1912, during its maiden voyage from Southampton (Great Britain) to New York (USA). The ship, the largest ship at the time, hit an iceberg. As a result, approximately 1,500 people lost their lives.
