Do you want good, but the very best? Then Qualcomm has the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in its portfolio. The chip specialist is launching this processor for smartphones as a light variant of the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is intended for the currently most powerful phones. Expect this CPU to be just below the absolute top in premium devices, where price again plays a role.
While the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a 1-5-3 configuration, this chip has a 1-4-3 core combination. Here too, the ARM Cortex X4 is the only powerhouse, but it is supported by four instead of five average cores. The primary core also has a slightly lower clock frequency: 3 GHz instead of 3.4 GHz.
The model in this version is a generation older, but WiFi 7 is present. If you want, you can also run AI models on this chip. Chinese smartphones in particular will be the first to use this processor.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is overkill in many situations. The fact that Qualcomm is now releasing a powerful chip that takes things a little slower can offer interesting devices at a more interesting price.
