sony, is undoubtedly the most successful console manufacturer of all time. The company, which left its mark on the eighth generation with PS4, continues to break sales records with PS4. PS5and also working on PlayStation 5 Pro. However, it would be wrong to say that every step of the Japanese gaming giant was successful.

For example, although it has existed for two generations, it has not yet achieved the desired success in the VR headset market. In fact, this situation is on the verge of a serious crisis with Sony suspending production. PSVR2 due to the accumulation of unsold stocks. Details are here…

Although virtual reality has been in the spotlight recently with Apple’s Vision Pro, it is not a new technology for Sony. The company released its first headset as an accessory for PS4 in 2016. While sales were not revolutionary, they were promising and encouraged PlayStation to continue development. This culminated in the February release of the $549.99 PS VR2.

Despite its high price, the headset had strong initial sales, selling 600,000 units in the first six weeks. But later this momentum slowed down. Recent sales figures have led Sony to make a major decision: to temporarily halt production of the PlayStation VR2. This doesn’t necessarily mean the death of the headset.

After selling off its existing inventory, Sony will likely transition to a more measured approach to production. But given these developments, it seems unlikely to expect a surge in big-budget VR games from Sony or other developers. On the other hand, Sony may consider a strategic price cut to clear stocks.

Dropping the price from $549.99 to $349.99, for example, could significantly increase the appeal of the product and potentially reignite interest in these AAA VR games from both Sony and developers. It is important to note that apart from the confirmed production suspension, the rest remains speculation. As always, Sony’s official statements carry the most weight.
