Videos that show people doing things they didn’t do, replace footage of real places and events, or contain scenes that never happened will now need to be flagged.

This transparency is expected to help users navigate growing streams of AI-generated video content.

How to mark videos?

YouTube will add tags like “altered or artificial content” or “significantly altered or digitally created audio or visual effects” to indicate AI involvement.

Content created with YouTube’s generative artificial intelligence tools, which launched in September, will also be tagged accordingly.

Penalties for non-compliance

Repeat violations will result in content removal and disqualification from the monetization program and compliance with the new rules will be enforced.
