Oracle has announced the launch of Java 22, the latest version of its programming platform with numerous improvements in performance, stability and security.
As part of Java 22, Oracle is introducing a number of improvements to support developers. Java 22 includes improvements to the programming language, APIs, performance, and tools in the Java Development Kit (JDK).
The update includes 12 JDK Enhancement Proposals (JEPs) with improvements from the OpenJDK project Amber, such as declarations for unnamed variables and patterns, string templates, and implicitly declared classes and main methods. Project Panama contributes the Foreign Function & Memory API and the Vector API, while Project Loom introduces features such as structured concurrency and large values.
This release also brings updates to core libraries and tools such as the Class-File API, launching programs consisting of multiple source code files, and stream gatherers. In addition, there are performance improvements such as: B. Region pinning for G1, which is intended to reduce latency by enabling garbage collection on certain native library calls.
Java 22 is the result of ongoing collaboration within the global Java developer community through OpenJDK and the Java Community Process (JCP). Java 22 is supported by the Java Management Service (JMS) – a native service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) that helps organizations manage Java runtime environments and applications both on-premises and in the cloud.
Java 22 promises improved performance, efficiency and cost savings when deployed in the cloud on OCI. Of course, Oracle is one of the first hyperscale clouds to support Java 22 with its own OCI. Oracle offers Oracle Java SE, Oracle GraalVM, and the Java SE Subscription Enterprise Performance Pack for free on OCI, allowing developers to build and deploy applications with optimized cost/performance.
