Microsoft will launch Office 2024 later this year. You can purchase a one-time license for this version of the Office suite without incurring recurring subscription costs. Prices for companies are rising slightly.
Office 2024 will succeed Office 2021 later this year. Previews of the Office suite are scheduled to begin next month. Microsoft will provide a version for Windows and Mac. Windows 10 is also supported at startup, but only on x86.
Office 2024 will include a selection of Microsoft 365 applications. Important applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook are available. Cloud-related solutions such as OneDrive are of course not included in the one-off purchase price.
No major price adjustments
Microsoft is not planning any price changes for the standard version of Office 2024. Office 2024 will cost them the same as Office 2021, Redmond said. The price is therefore 299 euros (including VAT). For Office LTSC with additional support tailored to business users, Microsoft is increasing the price by ten percent. Microsoft also announces that after Office 2024 there will be at least one more Office version with a one-time purchase option.
Microsoft offers five years of support for Office 2024. This means that the costs per year amount to just under 60 euros and are therefore cheaper than five years of Microsoft 365. On the other hand, Microsoft 365 not only includes more applications, but also receives functional updates. Finally, the functionality of Office 2024 is frozen at launch: after purchase, you will only receive stability and security updates.
For those who want stability
Against its wishes, Microsoft continues to offer Office as a standalone suite. The company has been vocal about favoring Microsoft 365 subscriptions. Additionally, Microsoft earns predictable (and higher) long-term revenue on a monthly or annual basis in exchange for significantly more functionality and constant feature updates. For many users, this is not necessarily a plus point and for them Microsoft provides the “classic” versions of Office, which offer more stability without constant adjustments.
