It’s been a few months since the launch of Threads. The so-called “Instagram Twitter” was launched in July, but came to the Old Continent later due to European regulations, but in any case the platform was ready to replace Twitter/X. But Threads was guilty of not having a replacement for Twitter/X. Twitter is the foundation, the central axis of the experience, and one of the things that makes it popular: Trending Topics, aka trends.

Anyway, they started coming now.

Why Are Trending Topics Important?. Twitter/X has always been described as a network where one keeps the pulse of current events and knows what is going on. Although algorithmic streaming has emerged, Twitter was and still is one of the few social networks that allows you to follow the events of an event chronologically. These activities are often grouped into themes or #hashtags. If one of them starts to become relevant, it gets placed in Trending Topics so the rest of the users can see what’s going on.

The topics are the same but no. For all intents and purposes, Threads is Twitter 2.0 by Meta. And yes, it’s true that topics can be grouped into themes using clickable tags that lead to that theme, such as #OnePiece. There is no longer a way to simply follow this thread or see what the main conversations are happening on the platform.

For example, it’s trending on Twitter right now.”dahlia valley” (based on update 1.6, by the way). We don’t know what they are talking about in Threads.

TTs are coming. Trends are officially coming to Threads, although it may take some time. They are doing this first in the United States, where it is already available, and is expected to reach other countries over time. Trends will appear on the search page (until now only used to search for people) and in the “For you” section.

Selected by artificial intelligence and without personalization. As Meta explains, up to five current topics selected by artificial intelligence systems will be shown. To do this, AI will rely on certain signals, such as the volume of posts on the topic and the people who interact with them.

The themes selected are not individually personalized, meaning all people in a country see the same themes. According to Meta, “once selected, a team of content experts reviews the topics and related search results. Experts do not select topics; instead, they work to make sure nothing violates our Community Guidelines or Suggestions Guidelines, and that topics are not repetitive, meaningless, or misleading.”
