The Neue Klasse debuts as an SAV: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X.

Innovative engine and chassis management systems that are more efficient and fun, with more dynamic performance.

Advanced digital technologies and new environmentally friendly materials.

Progressive and open design.

The new Vision Car from the BMW Group gives the first glimpse of the Neue Klasse as an SAV: The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X brings the aesthetics, technology, sustainability and philosophy of the Neue Klasse to the sports car segment. The first all-electric version of the new architecture will go into series production at the Debrecen plant (Hungary) in 2025.

“Together with the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X demonstrates the breadth of our future BMW model range. The Neue Klasse reflects the diversity of all models that customers want today and in the future – from the sports sedan in all its versions to the modern SAV family,” says Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. “We therefore emphasize that the Neue Klasse is much more than just a specific car or concept; “This is a reimagining of the BMW brand – and at the same time it will be more BMW than ever.”

The company presented a clear picture of the future of the brand as a sedan with the BMW Vision Neue Klasse at the IAA 2023. The latest Vision car now illustrates how BMW sees the future of its X models. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is an active lifestyle, efficient dynamics and a confident presence. Its design combines a crisp appearance with a bright and spacious interior. Special lighting and sound effects implemented in the new generation of BMW iDrive enhance the intuitive digital user experience. The three main characteristics of the New Class – electrical, digital and circular – are expanded here to include a fourth dimension. Driving pleasure, which is at the core of the BMW brand, is taken to a new level thanks to the ride and chassis control system developed specifically for the Neue Klasse, as well as the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology. Sustainability also ensures that products are manufactured, operated, dismantled and recycled responsibly.

Innovations in power train and chassis control: improved dynamic performance, greater precision, greater efficiency.

The new type of transmission and chassis control provides a superior driving experience that adapts to individual needs. It is based on a new software engine developed by the BMW Group and helps Neue Klasse vehicles to always provide a smooth ride. Two of the four new superbrains will take the Neue Klasse driving experience to a new dimension.

“Neue Klasse means BMW driving at an even higher level,” explains Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for development. “The BMW of the future will have four completely new superbrains: high-performance computers that work together intelligently and process what was previously processed separately.

We have developed the first completely internal superbrain. It integrates the entire powertrain and driving dynamics, delivering up to ten times more processing power. The second superbrain will enable the next quantum leap in automated driving,” Weber continues. “In the future, we will combine four key control units into one high-performance computer. The result will be even better performance, greater precision, greater efficiency and even greater driving pleasure.”

Design: updated BMW X models with a strong character.

In combination with BMW’s two-volume design, thanks to its higher ground clearance, the all-electric vehicle architecture offers new possibilities for an even more spacious interior. This allowed for a long wheelbase, short overhangs and classic BMW proportions. Large window areas and a panoramic glass roof flood the interior with natural light, creating a feeling of space and air, which is complemented by warm-colored textiles.

The new appearance of the BMW X models also contributes to the strong presence of the Vision Vehicle. The vertically arranged LED units offer a new interpretation of the distinctive BMW signature lighting. Front and center is the BMW kidney grille, reimagined as a three-dimensional sculpture with vertical contours and backlit lighting. Together, the headlights and grille create a lighting effect that is activated as the driver approaches the vehicle and enters the cabin.

The rear is powerful and sporty. The rear lights, running toward the center, are a horizontal interpretation of the familiar BMW L-shape. Its 3D printed elements are individually controlled using variable light intensity, creating a particularly expressive depth effect.

Smooth glass surfaces and the high-gloss Coral Silver exterior paint give the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X a certain lightness. At the rear of the side windows, the brand’s signature Hofmeister curve is implemented not through a chrome surround, but through a “reflective print” that creates a transparent or reflective surface, depending on the viewing angle.

Personalized user experience with BMW Panoramic Vision and personalized sound HYPERSONX WHEEL.

The slightly raised seat ensures a confident ride. The redesigned steering wheel with multifunction buttons, the central display with intuitive touch controls and BMW Panoramic Vision, together with the advanced BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control, provide a simple and intuitive interface for human interaction with the car. BMW Panoramic Vision projects important information across the entire width of the windshield. In production models of the Neue Klasse it will be complemented by the improved BMW 3D Head-Up Display.

In the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X, the central display is elegantly integrated into the instrument panel, giving both front passengers optimal access to all infotainment functions. The displayed colors are transmitted not only to the ambient light, but also to the illuminated textile surfaces of the instrument panel.

New to the new HYPERSONX WHEEL, Personal Sound Experience opens up more possibilities. Thanks to this digital feature, car passengers can enjoy their favorite sound on any trip. The sound, generated in real time and controlled by the touch of a finger on the HYPERSONX WHEEL, represents an innovative contribution to an immersive and holistic user experience that transforms the interior of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X into a space of personal experiences.

BMW eDrive technology: the sixth generation is more efficient than ever.

The Neue Klasse takes overall vehicle efficiency to a new level. The key to this is the sixth and latest generation of BMW eDrive technology. In addition to improved electronic drive units, it also features new, now round lithium-ion battery cells that have a volumetric energy density that is more than 20% higher than the previously used prismatic cells.

Combined with the move to an 800-volt system, this will reduce charging speeds by up to 30%, allowing cars to charge up to 300 kilometers in just ten minutes. The sixth generation of BMW eDrive also offers up to 30% greater range. In terms of aerodynamics, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse The new tire design and a special braking system for all-electric vehicles help to increase the overall efficiency of the vehicle by up to 25%.

CO2 emissions2 reduced through more resource-efficient production and supply chains.

For interior work, a completely vegetable, mineral and oil-free coating “Verdana” has been developed. In the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X it will be used in the lower part of the door trims and on the center console. Marine plastics are also being used as injection molded parts for the first time. In some components, this recycled material, which is obtained, for example, from waste fishing nets, already makes up 30% of the part material.

The choice of materials and manufacturing method facilitates disassembly of components and improves recyclability. The side skirts and front and rear bumper accessories are also made from recycled monomaterials. In this, the new design concept follows the BMW i Vision Circular introduced in 2021, which made extensive use of monomaterials to optimize recyclability.

Neue Klasse also marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of production. The BMW Group plant in Debrecen, Hungary, was planned and developed as an iFACTORY from the very beginning.
