Suyu was released as a Nintendo Switch emulator that came fill in the gap that Yuzu left. The first build was promising as it was available with the installers Windows, Linux, macOS and even for Androidbut unfortunately it lasted less than the candy at the school door.

DMCA hardly took a few days to send a cease and desist order so GitLab where the Suyu repository was hosted will remove this new Nintendo Switch emulator. They had no choice but to comply with this order immediately, and if they didn’t, they would find themselves in a very complicated situation that could lead them to a million dollar lawsuit.

It is clear that Nintendo continues to try to put the door on the playground, but I don’t think this move, nor any future cease and desist orders issued against new reviews of this Nintendo Switch emulator, will really be effective. The Internet is a vast “world” full of possibilities, and eventually those responsible for the project will find a way to offer it while avoiding the scope of the DMCA.

Nintendo Switch Emulator

At the time of writing I am aware that this emulator came back to life in other repositories, although for obvious reasons I can’t provide a link and I ask that you don’t do so in the comments either. I understand that Nintendo wants to protect their intellectual property, in fact it’s completely legal and I don’t question it at all, but I also think they’ve embarked on a crusade they can’t win.

For now, Ryujinx emulator has been exempted from DMCA, but we won’t say it too loudly, because in the end, with the victory over Yuzu and Suya, Nintendo may be encouraged to also take action against this emulator, which has been running since 2017 and is presented as an open source project, which is also monetize via Patreon.

Personally, always I preferred the original systems play their respective game catalogs because the sensations conveyed by the console and its control system are vastly different compared to using a keyboard or a generic or emulated controller. I understand that this is not always possible and that there are of course a huge number of arcade games that cannot be enjoyed in their original form, but this excuse does not apply to the Nintendo Switch.
