There are fewer and fewer applications that have accompanied Windows since its inception, but both Notepad and Paint manage to maintain themselves, more than 40 years, as components marked by many users as essential for the Microsoft operating system. And that in both cases, we’ve seen them go through a real dry spell in terms of rebuilding, and that they’ve even started to question their future in Redmond.

The resounding response these approaches received meant, as I said, more than four decades after both debuted with Windows 1.0 (although Paint did so originally as Paintbrush), not only are they still around, but they are enjoying a second youthin which Microsoft has given up on the importance the community places on them and has been adding new features for some time in response.

The biggest example of this is Painting, which we brought you new news on in this regard a week ago, but since Notepad debuted its long-awaited cards last year, we’ve seen other news, such as plans to bring Copilot to the veteran application. The one who had been his older brother, however, had worse luck, WordPad, whose removal from Windows began last January.

Well, as they say, a dead king is a king, and as we read on the official Windows blog, Notepad will add spell check and autocorrect features. Specifically, the feature started rolling out in version 11.2402.18.0, which is available to insiders in the Canary and Dev channels. Its operation will, as you imagine, be similar to what we already know in other word processing tools, with incorrect expressions underlined and a menu with suggestions for correction.

Of course, Microsoft is aware that Notepad is often used to review files that should not be subject to this type of review, such as configuration files, code, etc. So, By default, this feature is disabledand it will be the user who will have to activate it if they want the application to notify them of possible errors in their texts.

Notepad doesn’t seem to have gotten this feature when WordPad uninstallation started, because for simple documents it is possible that some users will switch from the latter to the former. This is further enhanced with the arrival of Copilot, and if this is the reason, we can expect more features to come in the near future.
