We’ve known that for quite some time Windows 11 24H2 will be Microsoft’s big operating system update for 2024. What’s more, we can say that we have known about it since Redmond abandoned the policy of publishing two major updates per year, which we understand was mainly motivated by the enormous amount of problems that occurred with some of these updates. No doubt better, just one (as we already see in many other operating systems), but sleeker and therefore less problematic.
So Microsoft, and we’ve already seen it last year, decided to make it the most important update of the year on one side or the other of the autumn threshold, matching those for macOS, Android, iOS and, although in this case they maintain updates every six months, Ubuntu. So we can now assume that major renovations come with a view to back to school, a time of year that many companies, as well as many people, have chosen to carry out new projects, changes, etc.
Now that they are scheduled to launch on these dates, That doesn’t mean there are still months of work left to polish them. Yes, this is happening with Android, for example, which, as we told you a few days ago, just released its developer preview 2, and we also expect that Apple will spend a few more months polishing the expected iOS 18 with all the new features that it promises to bring, especially those , which relate to artificial intelligence.
However, this is not the case with the Redmond operating system because, as we read in WindowsLatest, Microsoft will have the RTM version of Windows 11 24H2 ready in a few days. For those who don’t know what version it is, RTM stands for Release to Manufacturers, which is nothing more than the version of the operating system that manufacturers and system builders receive to install on the devices they will subsequently market.
Does this mean that Windows 11 24H2 will reach users before 23H2 and 22H2 to name two examples? Well, not reallyor for the vast majority. For now, this RTM release will allow manufacturers and assemblers to test its functionality on PCs that will be running Windows 11 24H2, as there is still time to fix any issues that may occur with specific configurations and the like.
Why did I say no “for the vast majority”? Well, because rumors suggest that his debut will happen hand in hand with the first computers equipped with an integrated Snapdragon, which is expected to be released in the summer and which some leakers place as early as June. In this case, if eventually confirmed, people who buy these computers could start using Windows 11 24H2 before others. Of course, in this case, it is possible that some of its functions will not be available from day one.
