Boeing CEO resigns after series of aircraft incidents

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun will step down at the end of 2024 as part of a major shakeup at the aviation giant following a series of incidents involving its planes.

CNBC reports this, according to Ukrinform.

The company’s chairman, Larry Kellner, is also resigning. He will resign from the company’s board of directors at Boeing’s annual meeting in May.

He was replaced by Steve Mollenkopf, who has been Boeing’s director since 2020.

Additionally, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stan Diehl is leaving the company effective immediately. His successor is Stephanie Pope, who most recently became Boeing’s chief operating officer.

The company’s personnel decisions come at a time when airlines and regulators are increasingly demanding major changes at the company following a series of defects in the quality and production of Boeing planes.

Last week, airline executives began scheduling meetings with Boeing executives to express their displeasure over the lack of quality control and lower-than-expected production of the 737 Max planes.

As Ukrinform reported, in March the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation after a United Airlines Boeing 737-800 passenger plane lost its outer panel during flight.

Also this month, a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 passenger plane departing from San Francisco Airport had a tire burst during takeoff.
