The US government has formally charged a group of hackers operating out of China with criminal charges and announced sanctions against various entities in the People’s Republic of China that attack US and allied government, defense, technology and other sectors.
This is stated in the official message of the US State Department, distributed on Monday, Ukrinform reports.
“The US government is taking a number of actions against the PRC government-affiliated cyber group APT 31, which has attacked US officials, politicians and campaign representatives, various US economic and defense organizations and officials, as well as foreign activists, academics and government officials” – the message stated .
In particular, it was noted that the US Department of Justice had released official charges against hackers who committed crimes classified as computer fraud in China and did so through conspiracy.
Additionally, the U.S. Treasury Department is imposing sanctions on several technology companies in China “due to their role in malicious cyber activities targeting U.S. critical infrastructure.”
As reported by Ukrinform, the US Treasury on Monday imposed sanctions against a dozen and a half organizations and individuals in Russia and other countries that helped the Kremlin conduct illegal financial transactions in crypto markets and bypass previously imposed restrictions.
