The first edition of the Flanders Technology & Innovation Festival (FTI) attracted 177,500 visitors and illuminated the region’s technology and innovation landscape for ten days.
Last weekend, 33,000 participants flocked to the Sportpaleis and the Lotto Arena for the closing party of the Flanders Technology & Innovation Festival (FTI). This brings the total number of visitors to 177,500. This final festival was the ultimate conclusion to the ten-day Technology and Innovation Festival, with which the Flemish government wanted to highlight the technology and innovation landscape in our region in order to interest younger people in technology and STEM fields.
Technology and innovation
Both young people and professionals were present at the FTI, where they were able to attend various demonstrations and showcases, take part in workshops and listen to inspiring lectures. The aim of this festival was to get the Flemish population excited about technology and innovation in general, but with a focus on their own region.

The Flemish government wanted to shine a spotlight on the innovations of companies and knowledge institutions from its own region, in the hope of encouraging young people to delve into technology and STEM fields. In the future, they could contribute to solving social problems such as the climate or better health care.
Successful first edition
The first edition of FTI reached the mark of 150,000 participants and they are satisfied with that. “Flanders Technology & Innovation was a great success for ten days,” says the Prime Minister of the Flemish Government and Flemish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Culture, Digitalization and Facility Management. “The festivals have made it clear that Flanders indeed has a bright future if we remain Europe’s innovation leader. We can offer our children and grandchildren an even better Flanders,” concludes the Flemish Minister for Labour, Economy, Innovation and Agriculture.
