Apple today added a “Why Upgrade” section to its website to encourage customers with older iPhone models to upgrade to a newer model. Customers can compare on the website iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, and iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Each comparison shows what new features an old iPhone user will have after upgrading to iPhone 15. For example, iPhone 11 and iPhone 15 offer 4 times better photo resolution, more main memory, Action and Cinematic mode for videos, USB-C, 60 percent faster GPU, 5G and more.
The site highlights differences between display technology, design, size, connectivity and more. Apple also provides information about the trade-in cost for each old “iPhone,” so customers know how much of a discount they can get by trading in the device for the purchase of a new “iPhone.”
To further soften the cost of the upgrade, Apple is touting monthly Apple Card payment and carrier deals that could drop the iPhone 15’s price to $0. Apple also touts how easy it is to upgrade to a new device with features like Fast Startup and eSIM.
Much of the smartphone market in the United States is saturated, and Apple has few new customers. Upgrades make up a significant portion of the market, and Apple is constantly looking for ways to get customers to buy new iPhones on a regular basis to maintain sales.
