On March 25, SpaceX launched another batch of its broadband satellites into orbit. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket carrying 23 Starlink Internet satellites lifted off from the Space Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida, at 19:42 ET (23:42 GMT).
The Falcon 9 first stage returned to Earth as planned and made a vertical landing approximately 8.5 minutes after liftoff on SpaceX’s Gravitas Lack parked in the Atlantic Ocean.
According to SpaceX’s mission statement, this was the eighth launch and landing of that launch vehicle. Meanwhile, Falcon 9’s upper stage will, if all goes as planned, place 23 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit (LEO) approximately 65 minutes after liftoff.
The launch was the 29th Falcon 9 mission in 2024 and the 19th mission dedicated to the creation of the Starlink megaconstellation. According to astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell, SpaceX had launched 6,054 Starlink satellites before this launch; of these, 5,587 are currently operating in low orbit.
