“At the end of the project, we will be able to produce batteries from recycled materials for the first time,” said project manager Damian Cupidon from AIT.

The research institute, headquartered in Vienna, signed a major research contract with the EU worth approximately 1 million euros. The project is designed for three years and, according to experts, there are significant prospects for the creation of a “green battery”.

The “battery of the future” is expected to use recycled old batteries, of which today only 40% are recycled and otherwise incinerated. Austrian scientists are also conducting experiments with alternative raw materials. We are talking about mining waste, which contains especially large amounts of cobalt, nickel and manganese. It is also planned to reuse photovoltaic panels containing silicon.

Exactly which batteries will be produced by the research center has not yet been determined; This depends on further research. Currently, scientists plan that the charging elements they have created can be used in various vehicles.

As Ukrinform reported, a team of researchers was formed, led by Professor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston Khaleh Ardebili. flexible battery prototype based on elastic fabricallows you to charge gadgets using clothes.
