Swedish company Saab has started conceptual studies of promising new generation fighter aircraft and unmanned systems.

The company signed a contract with the Swedish Defense Procurement Agency for conceptual studies of the new fighter jet that will replace the JAS-39 Gripen. Saab has been conducting independent and proactive research into the new aircraft platform of the future since 2000. Now the company will present a detailed model of the future fighter jet and unmanned system.

The company is in a strong position and we have the advanced technology and engineering know-how to advance the concept of the future fighter jet, having recently developed the Gripen E and GlobalEye. This means we will continue to create solutions to meet the future operational needs of the Swedish Armed Forces and other customers,” said Lars Tossman, Head of Business Ideas for Aviation at Saab.

As part of this program, the Swedish Air Force aims to receive a conceptually new aircraft to replace its current fleet of Gripen fighter jets by 2035. It is worth noting that work on the new aircraft will not affect the production and modernization process of Gripen fighters.
