Microsoft Teams gets new Copilot AI features

Microsoft Teams co-pilot

Microsoft is integrating Copilot’s AI capabilities even deeper into Teams to make meetings more efficient. The IntelliFrame function is intended to ensure more interactivity.

You can already use Copilot to combine meetings into Teams meetings. Over the next two months, Microsoft will add voice transcripts and chat messages in a convenient overview. This way you can easily catch up on a missed meeting. This in combination with the summary will quickly bring you up to date.

Next month, Copilot will add an additional chat window in Teams where you can ask to rewrite your question or add an action. Finally, you can even generate a message by typing just a few words. Copilot understands the context of the conversation and can compose a message based on that.

Starting in June, anyone using Teams for voice (VoIP) can rely on Copilot for insights and conversation summaries. The only requirement for this is a Teams Premium and Copilot subscription.

Conduct more active meetings

In addition to the Copilot news, Microsoft wants to make meetings more active. Today, you can already enable Microsoft IntelliFrame in a Teams Rooms setup, where the camera automatically zooms in on the active speaker rather than the entire room. IntelliFrame creates different video feeds of the most active participants and switches between them at lightning speed.

IntelliFrame is now enabled by default. Previously, administrators had to enable this feature manually. This feature change is now rolling out to all Teams Rooms accounts.

Not every Teams Rooms setup has smart speakers that can recognize speakers and provide good transcription. Starting in April, Microsoft will improve speaker recognition, regardless of what type of speaker you have. This allows Copilot to do a better job of summarizing meetings. Voice isolation in a busy environment will also be available in a Teams update starting in April.

Windows Autopilot for Teams Rooms

Finally, Microsoft is rolling out an improved version of Windows Autopilot for Teams Rooms in a public preview this week. This allows IT teams to create a Team Rooms setup in minutes. This new integration with Windows Autopilot and automatic sign-in to Teams Rooms on Windows enables a smooth deployment that allows devices to seamlessly sign in to the account associated with the Autopilot device.

Additionally, the Microsoft Teams Rooms for Windows app automatically searches for and installs new applications and Windows updates during initial setup. This means the devices are protected and up to date from day one.
