Google and Qualcomm are launching an optimized version of Chrome for Windows on ARM.
Google, along with chipmaker Qualcomm, announced that it would release an optimized version of its Chrome browser for Windows on ARM this week. This official announcement comes a few months after a first version of the browser was spotted in Chrome’s Canary channel. With Qualcomm, Google wants to improve the user experience on current ARM-compatible PCs.
Snapdragon X Elite processors
Google’s announcement comes ahead of the launch of Qualcomm’s new ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite processors. They are expected to arrive this summer with big promises of performance. The chip is said to be faster than those from Apple or Intel. Many brands have set their sights on building PCs around the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite.
This new native ARM version of Chrome should perform better than the x86 version that works via emulation. The optimized version of Chrome technically runs on any ARM-based Windows PC. However, Qualcomm is currently the only manufacturer of ARM-based processors for Windows. It’s not the first time that Google has released an ARM-optimized version of Chrome. In 2020, Chrome brought a native version of its browser to Apple’s ARM-based Macs.
