Bodies of two workers found after bridge collapse in Baltimore

Authorities discovered this Wednesday lifeless bodies of two of the six workers who presumably died when a bridge collapsed in Baltimore (Maryland, USA) as a result of a collision with an out-of-control ship.

Victims Alejandro Fernandez Fuentes, 35, and Dorlian Castillo Cabrera, 26Maryland police announced this at a press conference.

State Police Chief Roland Butler explained that the bodies were found inside a red van under the water.

Relatives of both victims have already been informed of the discovery of the remains.

The two were part of a group of eight construction workers who were filling potholes on the Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday morning when Dali’s ship crashed into the infrastructure.

Two of them were rescued alive, the remaining six are considered dead.

Alejandro Fernandez Fuentes and Dorlian Castillo Cabrera – The first bodies were discovered.

The six dead were two Mexicans, two Guatemalans, one Salvadoran and one Honduran.

The Mexicans who disappeared when the bridge collapsed were from Veracruz and Michoacán.

Two Mexicans missing after a cargo ship sank on a bridge in Baltimore are from Veracruz and Michoacán, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) said.

Also third Mexican who was rescued alive is from Michoacán, according to the Mexican Embassy in the United States.

The latter was wounded, for which he is receiving medical assistance and is “satisfactorily recovering from his injuries,” the Foreign Ministry said.

SRE did not disclose further details about the identities of the missing compatriots and said the workers’ families had made a request “respect your privacy during this difficult time

What was the Baltimore bridge collapse like?

The events took place early Tuesday morning when the Singapore-flagged Dali suffered a power outage after leaving the port of Baltimore, Maryland, and crashed into a pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed within seconds.

Eight employees of the construction company Brawner Builders, who were filling potholes on a bridge, fell into the dark waters of the Patapsco River, of which only two were rescued, one of them in serious condition.

On Wednesday morning, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed that the three workers were Mexican. One of them was rescued alive, although he was wounded, the other two are still missing. (EFE)
