Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and private companies will work together to develop their own next-generation passenger aircraft, sharing an investment of approximately ¥5 trillion (US$33 billion) over the next 10 years.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by Kyodo News with reference to sources.

The new aircraft, which is expected to be ready in 2035, will optionally be able to run on hydrogen, but will not be able to run on traditional jet fuel due to the country’s effort to reduce carbon emissions.

In recent years, airlines around the world have increasingly started to use environmentally friendly aviation fuel obtained from waste cooking oils and plants.

Last year, Mitsubishi Heavy halted work on an earlier project to produce Japan’s first domestic passenger plane, called SpaceJet, due to a lack of technical know-how and rising costs.

Development of the SpaceJet began in 2008 with a ¥50 billion grant from Japan’s Ministry of Industry, and its first delivery was initially planned for 2013.

However, this schedule changed six times before the coronavirus pandemic dealt the final blow to the project.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Japanese government decided on Tuesday to relax strict national rules on arms sales to third countries; This will allow the export of next-generation fighter jets to be developed by the country together with Great Britain and Italy. .
