Japanese SLIM device managed to communicate with Earth

0

Experts from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) reported on the X social network that they managed to establish contact with the SLIM lunar descent module, which survived the lunar night for the second time in a row.

Despite the fact that the sun was still high and the device’s equipment did not warm up enough after the moonlit night, when the temperature on the Earth’s natural satellite dropped to minus 173 degrees Celsius, engineers they were able to Take a photo of the moon landscape using the navigation camera.

Let me remind you that on January 19, 2024, the Japanese SLIM apparatus lost part of the nozzle of one of the engines during the moon landing. This led to incomplete suppression of lateral velocity and, as a result, the module stuck “on the head”. However, despite this problem, the device was able to receive energy from the sun and transmit data to the Earth.
