The United States may supply Ukraine with four MQ-1C Gray Eagle aircraft. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources familiar with the matter. These drones can be armed with Hellfire guided air-to-ground missiles designed to destroy armored vehicles and other ground targets.
A public statement is expected in the coming days, after which President Joe Biden’s administration plans to inform Congress about the possible sale of MQ-1C drones manufactured by General Atomics to Ukraine. News agency sources also said there was a risk of a last-minute policy change that could disrupt the drone procurement plan, which has been under review at the Pentagon for several weeks.
American Gray Eagle drones can fly for 30 hours or more depending on the mission being performed, and collect vast amounts of intelligence. Gray Eagle drones are an enhanced version of the famous Predator drone and can also carry up to eight Hellfire anti-tank missiles.
The publication states that the sale of the MQ-1C will be of great importance for Ukraine, as these unmanned aerial vehicles take the country’s defense to a new level. It should be noted that earlier there were reports of plans to purchase heavy drones from General Atomics.
The MQ-1C Gray Eagle drone is a reconnaissance and attack UAV developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. It can stay in the air for up to 30 hours and can go up to 280 km / h. The multipurpose drone is designed primarily for reconnaissance with a range of up to 400 kilometers, but can perform the functions of a strike drone.
To do this, it can carry four AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-ground missiles or up to four GBU-44 guided bombs and other weapons and special equipment. We remind you that Ukraine will receive HIMARS systems under the 700 million dollar aid package. Source
