The United States government has tightened controls on the export of artificial intelligence (AI) chips and equipment to China.

This was reported by Reuters, Ukrinform reported.

As noted, Washington expanded the restrictions for national security reasons to prevent China from obtaining the most advanced semiconductors that could be used for military purposes.

The US has revised rules issued last October aimed at stopping shipments to China of the most advanced AI chips developed by Nvidia and other US technology companies. For example, it is stated that restrictions on the supply of chips to China now also apply to laptops containing such chips.

The rules will come into force on April 4.

The US Department of Commerce, which is responsible for export control, said it plans to renew restrictions on the supply of high technology to China in the future.

Beijing, on the other hand, harshly criticizes the restrictive policy of the US administration and states that China is attempting to block its technology and prevent its development.

“Such steps by the United States seriously harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, undermine international trade rules, and destabilize global industrial and supply chains,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a briefing on Friday. said.

The diplomat noted that China strongly opposes such steps by the United States and calls for an end to unilateral sanctions against Chinese companies.

As Ukrinform reports, the American company Nvidia has presented a new chip with artificial intelligence (AI) that can perform some tasks 30 times faster than its predecessor.
