In Tyrol, Austria, scientists are investigating the possibility of producing furniture from mushroom mycelium.
This was reported by APA according to the report of Ukrinform.
As noted, mushroom mycelium is characterized by its ability to create strong and versatile materials that can become a sought-after sustainable alternative to traditional materials. Packaging, brick substitutes and even bicycle helmet prototypes began to be produced based on mushroom mycelium.

“The fibrous network system of fungi, called web-like fungal mycelium, is also considered a universal sustainable material by Tyrolean researchers. The long-term goal of the project is to create furniture from it,” the message says.

The government of the federal state of Tyrol has allocated 200,000 euros to the University of Innsbruck and the MRCA Fungal Research Center Austria GmbH in Innsbruck for relevant research. The project specifically involves the production of a chair for the living room from mushroom mycelium.
The project involves growing mycelium-based materials and using them in the production of composite materials. The aim is also to develop a catalog of furniture products.
As reported by Ukrinform, the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) is working on the EU mandate on the production of rechargeable batteries from recycled materials.
