What will happen to TikTok?
According to Yurchyshyn, banning the service could become a reality under certain conditions, but apparently there is no such intention at the moment. But there are reasons.
“If such sanctions are imposed in a partner country, we will also implement them. Everything is very difficult here, but if the USA takes such a drastic step, it may become another trump card in negotiations not only with TikTok but also with Telegram.”– says the chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Expression.
Although we have seen numerous hearings in the US Congress where representatives of the Chinese company tried to ensure the security of the service. We still do not know for sure how the social network collects, processes and uses users’ personal dataBecause all they actually received were verbal promises that Chinese officials did not have access to the collected data.
The Committee Chairman emphasized that all processes and issues regarding TikTok restrictions in various countries, especially Spain and Norway, are currently being followed.
- As you may remember, the sanctions against TikTok in 2019 were Trump’s farewell gift when he left the presidency. But then it got quiet pretty quickly. The banning process gained momentum last year when new data and testimony emerged that showed the service was spying.
- Today, TikTok is banned from government devices in many states as well as some countries around the world. Some countries are trying to prevent this completely for the entire region and for all citizens.
- The US recently passed a bill to ban or sell TikTok; This law requires the full-scale US office to either be sold to a local buyer or be closed.
