Emails that do not comply with recently communicated guidelines will now be automatically blocked by Google.

Google will now begin automatically blocking emails sent that do not meet new guidelines to combat spam and phishing attacks. Bulk senders will receive a temporary error message if their emails are not compliant so they can correct them. The guidelines have been in effect since February 2024.

Guidelines

Users who send more than five thousand messages per day to Gmail accounts must set up SPF/DKIM and DMARC email authentication for their domains. In addition, they must adhere to the following rules: not sending unsolicited or unwanted messages, offering a one-click unsubscribe option, and responding to recipients’ unsubscribe requests within two days.

Additionally, senders are not allowed to achieve a spam rate of 0.30 percent or higher, and if you impersonate someone else in the sender bar, emails will not be sent. Emails that do not meet the criteria stated in Google’s guidelines will be automatically blocked or immediately sent to spam.

Bulk senders who do not adhere to any of the guidelines will receive a temporary error message. This will allow them to adjust their emails to comply with the new rules. Google wants to use this to combat spam and phishing.
