In a speech in Michigan, Donald Trump called illegal immigrants in the US “animals” rather than “not people,” building on the derogatory rhetoric he used time and time again during the campaign.
The Republican presidential candidate, accompanied by several law enforcement officials, listed several criminal cases involving suspects who were in the country illegally.
Trump has said violence and chaos will engulf the United States if he does not win the November 5 election.
The former president was referring to the case of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Georgia who was allegedly killed by a Venezuelan immigrant who was in the country illegally.
Trump said some Immigrants were subhuman.
In his speeches, he often argues that immigrants crossing the border illegally into Mexico escaped from prisons and asylums in their home countries and fuel violent crime in the United States.
Although available data on the immigration status of criminals is sparse, researchers say people are living in the United States illegally. They don’t commit violent crimes to a greater extent than the indigenous people. (Reuters).
