We depend on services like WhatsApp in such a clear and direct way, that when they fail, there are many of us who blame the wound. In addition, although it actually happens more with some services than others, we tend to wonder if the problem is not ours, that is, if what is failing is our Internet connection, our device, the version of the application installed on the same … in short, let the one who has never restarted his mobile, just to verify that the reason for the failure was the crash of the given service, throw a stone.

That is what we are facing at the moment, and that is that after the release of this report, WhatsApp is not working, but it also seems that it did not “go” on its own, because failures are reported in other Meta services. Of course, while there are quite a few reports on this, I tried using these services and in my case I was able to access them normally, although the load times were a bit higher than usual.

So if we check DownDetector, we will see that it reports WhatsApp (including WhatsApp for Business), Facebook, Instagram and Facebook Messenger down. And as I said before, at least in my case Access to Facebook and Instagram remains active, and I can say the same about Facebook Messenger, which also allowed me to send and receive messages normally. Therefore, we can confirm that the issue is limited to WhatsApp only.

No, it's not you, WhatsApp isn't working... and so is the rest of Meta

Service is expected to be restored soonunless there was some really serious incident like the well-remembered one in March 2019, the one that took place just a month later or more recently the one in October 2021. And of course something we must not forget is the enormous complexity of the technological platform on which service established and how fragile it can be in certain circumstances.

In these cases, it is undoubtedly best to have some alternative that allows us to stay in touch with our contacts, at least the most direct ones. Last week, when an order issued by the National Court threatened to leave us without Telegram, we published a list of the main alternatives. Now of course you can look through this list, add Telegram to the options and, if you haven’t already done so, select one of these services as Plan B.
