After the start of the large-scale occupation, Russian hackers carry out 4.5 thousand cyber attacks every year.
Ilya Vityuk, head of the SBU Cybersecurity Department, told about this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“Cyber warfare is gaining momentum. I remind you that we experienced the first devastating attacks on energy facilities in 2015-2016. Then there was the NotPetya virus, constant DDoS attacks and intrusion attempts. The SBU reflected all this and constantly analyzed it.” said.
Vityuk added that Russia has been developing its cyber attack potential for a long time and began to demonstrate this after the large-scale invasion. “For example, we blocked 800 cyberattacks in 2020, 1,400 in 2021, and there were already 4,500 cyberattacks every year after the start of a full-scale war,” he explained.
According to Vityuk, SBU specialists stopped many dangerous attempts to penetrate the communication systems of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
As reported, on December 12, 2023, the operator “Kyivstar” became the target of a powerful hacker attack, which led to a technical malfunction. Communication services and internet access became unusable.
