Minecraft has new requirements, it won’t support 32-bit Windows

Minecraft remains one of the most popular and played games today. That’s one too one of the most affordable in terms of requirementsand it works without problems even on computers with very modest hardware and does not need a 64-bit operating system, which will soon change.

Mojang, responsible for the development and maintenance of Minecraft, confirmed that with the release of update 1.21 will stop supporting 32-bit versions of Windows. This change could also extend to 32-bit macOS, although at this point it doesn’t look like 32-bit OS support on Android and iOS will be removed.

Another important change in requirements that will arrive with the next Minecraft update is in a Java version that goes to 21 or higher. I’ll leave you with a summary of the most important technical changes that this new version brings, so that you have no doubts and are aware of everything:

Minecraft

  • The game requires Java 21 or higher.
  • The data pack will move to version 38.
  • The game requires a 64-bit operating system.

For now, the official requirements of Minecraft in its Java version remain unchanged, as this update still applies did not reach the general channel. When this happens, you will need a 64-bit Windows or Mac operating system to continue playing the game.

I haven’t noticed any changes at the hardware levelso in theory the requirements will not change in this regard and will remain as they are now:

  • Intel Core i3-3210 or AMD A8-7600 (two cores and four threads).
  • 2 GB of RAM.
  • Intel HD Graphics 4000 or AMD Radeon R5 GPU.

I remind you that this change of support at the operating system level can only affect users of Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and previous operating systems, since these had 32-bit versions. In case you are using Windows 11 It won’t touch you at all because the said operating system is only available in 64 bit. You can find more information on the official Minecraft website, which also lists all the new features and improvements that this new update brings.
